Speaker biography

Véronique Garrett is a co-founder and trustee of Downside Up, a charity whose mission it is to improve the quality of life of Russian children born with Down syndrome and their families. She is the mother of 5 children one of whom, Florence, has Down syndrome and who was the inspiration behind the charity. A special education teacher by profession, she has worked in the field of disability for many years focusing mainly on the integration and social inclusion of children and young adults with disabilities. Véronique has spent much of her time living abroad in countries where the rights of people with disabilities are not well respected. She has worked extensively on promoting best practice in early intervention, inclusive education and supported employment as well as empowering children and young adults with disabilities to advocate for themselves, be fully involved in the trajectory of their lives and to reach their full potential.
